When the World Wide Web first started out, there weren’t many servers to go around. There was only the Netscape Communication Corporation server, which is now known as Sun Java Systems, and that was it. So, as you must imagine, when the Apache HTTP server came onto the scene, there was a lot of hype.

Being the first viable alternative to the Netscape servers served Apache really well. Users who were fed up with the usual took on this server that runs on multiple platforms. In fact, the Apache web server has become so popular that it only took a mere four years for it to rival any other Unix-based web servers. Now it has grown into a fully-fledged organization (the Apache Software Foundation) which advocates free and open software.

History

The Apache web server is a patchwork of ideas and software, collectively developed by a group of programmers in mid-1994. It started off when Robert McCool, who was involved in the NCSA web server circulated a variety of patches via email to Brian Behlendorf, Roy Fielding, Rob Hartill, David Robinson, Cliff Skolnick, Randy Terbush, Robert S. Thau, Andrew Wilson, Eric Hagberg, Frank Peters and Nicolas Pioch. Altogether, they became the first Apache Team.

The amusing moniker that this corporation has gained is a direct reference to the Native American tribe. The primary developer, Brian Behlendorf, said that the name is obtained from a group of people that the organization wishes to emulate. However, some people say that the name ‘Apache web server’ is actually

clever wordplay, derived from ‘a patchy web server’. Whatever the reason the name is chosen, it doesn’t change the fact that this server has come a long way.

Features

The Apache web server boasts a bevy of features, some of them being SSL and TSL support, a proxy module, common languages interfaces support, authentication modules, server-side programming language and a rewrite engine.

Being a web server, it is used for virtual hosting. And one Apache installation can be used to serve many different websites. And for remote viewing of Apache logs, you can view them through an Internet browser using free scripts, such as AWStats/W3Perl or Visitors.

And all of these features are upgraded with the release of Apache 2.0 on April 6 2002. Several upgrades include more flexible authorization API and improved cache and proxy modules.

Aside from being able to serve the static and dynamic web content on the Internet, the Apache web server is also used to serve other applications. Some of them include the LAMP web server application stack and IBM’s Oracle Database. Another use of Apache is for the transmission of data over the Internet safely and securely.

License

Being an open source program, the Apache web server is made available to the general public for free. This allows modifications and upgrades to be done by anyone in the open source community. This has been a distinctive facet of the Apache HTTP server all throughout its history.

If you enjoy reading this, you may enjoy to read more about <a

You could try and experiment with all kinds of nice PHP and MySQL based applications right on your Windows desktop running Apache, instead of having to access a full-featured server.

Most people have Windows as their workstation and it can be sometimes difficult to
switch to another operating system. So, you may have always wanted to run PHP
applications on your Windows machine but wondered if it is too difficult to install or <br

Apache HTTP is one of the most widely used Web server software in the world today, with more than 100 million Web sites using it. And because it is open source, it is a very dynamic and has become a robust Web server it is today. What is more, it is free to download and use. It is no wonder than more than half of all Web sites are using Apache!

Here are the top 7 tips for Apache Security:

1. Keep it updated

Like everything else on your system like anti-virus software and Web servers, you would need to keep it updated to ensure that all security issues that are found after the release is plugged and secured. You can subscribe to the Apache HTTP Announcements List by e-mailing announce-subscribe @ httpd.apache.org to keep on top of new versions or patches.

2. Restrict permissions to root where applicable

Apache is most often started by the root user, so you should ensure that every command that is executable only by root users should not be modifiable by non-root users. This rule applies not only to commands but also to files, directories and parents.

3. Enable suexec

Enabling suexec can isolate the potential damage created by a SSI file or even a CGI Script.

4. Do not enable server side includes for.html files

Server side includes or SSI can increase the load on your server. This is because Apache parses EVERY SSI-enabled files. Therefore, if you enable SSI for ordinary html files, it would mean that Apache would parse every Web pa

ge on your server. It is better to assign a different extension for SSI, like using.shtml instead of.htm or.html.

5. Use only CGI scripts from authors you trust.

CGI Script writers can often create CGI scripts or programs that have security holes in it. When you are using CGI scripts, you should be wary that these scripts can run commands that can use the permissions of the user. Also these security holes can create ways with which hackers can attack your system.

6. Stop other people users from creating.htaccess files.

.htaccess files can enable users to override security features you specified, so it might be best to protect your system settings by not allowing overrides in your server configuration files. A simple “Allowoverride none” code in the section of your config file could prevent the utilization of.htaccess files.

7. Use a Web Application Firewall

Now that you have a robust and secure system, an added level of protection is to use a Web application firewall that can filter out unwanted data that you receive on your Web site. The Web application firewall can prevent you from getting viruses, malware and can thwart attempts to exploit vulnerabilities on your system by simply dropping or blocking out these content on data packets you receive.

More about <a

I am here to present the TVS Apache RTR 160 Review. I don’t know how TVS got one if its bikes to the front. I’m not a big raver of TVS, but this bike is certainly better than many others that I’ve seen so far.

How does it look?

The looks didn’t actually kick me off my feet but TVS when compared to older bikes form TVS, this is much better. The tank is ergonomically designed for the legs to nicely fit in. The design is manly and will certainly make a few heads turn. There are racing stripes along the length of the bike, giving it a sporty look. The moment you sit on the seat, the difference in the handle bars is immediately noticeable. They move separately while the speedometer and the place where you insert the key is fixed and are always in front of you, much like in the Hero Honda Karizma. The heart shaped RTR 160 logo is nothing less than beautiful. The taillights could have been better, but are not exactly ugly. The rear chains are left naked (fashionable!) -something I’ve admired much in foreign bikes. If you’re looking more for looks in a bike, the TVS Apache RTR shouldn’t be anywhere out of your choice list!

How does it perform?

When I first accelerated, the bike would have flown off with me if I hadn’t been a bit more careful! Don’t look at the specifications because they totally deceive you! I couldn’t resist rechecking the specifications after my first test drive. There’s a 270 mm front disc break in the front, and ther’s an optional rear

disc break. The dashboard has a speedometer and a digital console, which displays lots of info like how many kms you have driven so far, speed, fuel capacity, clock and ODO meter. It’s kind of like Karizma and Pulsar put together in a wonderful blend.

Final Verdict:

As I said, I’m not a big fan of TVS, but I would certainly put the Apache RTR into my choice list. It’s not actually reigning out, but it’s not a failure either. The Apache has three versions – the Apache RTR, the Apache RTR Refresh and the Apcahe RTR Efi. The yellow Apaches cost Rs.1000 extra. So those who own yellow Apaches have something more to boast about! The Apache is a great competitor for the CBZ and Pulsar, but may stand out a bit in features and raw power. The TVS Apache RTR is certainly one bike to consider!

Do you want to get more information about this bike? Visit <a

What this means is that the server contains both the database front end, the database back end, and the client front end all in one package. Upgrades to software based on Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP) can be done with very little time involved at all, since all of the necessary software will only have to be installed one time, on one computer. In addition, LAMP software could very easily be made available to individuals who are outside of a main office. These workers would simply have to connect to a company’s VPN to run the intended software.

This tutorial will cover LAMP installation on a stand alone server, which will be able to run software designed for a LAMP environment. This tutorial will also cover basic MySQL syntax, so that a server administrator can troubleshoot issues within a particular application. This tutorial already assumes that a working installation of Linux is available, and that networking is already setup on the working installation of Linux. For the sake of this tutorial, all of the LAMP components will be installed from source code when needed, and from binary packages when appropriate. This tutorial should be applicable across all distributions of Linux. The first step is to successfully install Apache.

Apache Installation and Configuration

Apache can be downloaded from apache.org. In this example, Apache version 1.3.31 i

s used. First, create a directory on the root of your file system called src.

mkdir /src

Next, move the Apache software to the /src directory, and extract it.

mv apache_1.3.31.tar.gz /src
tar -xvzf apache_1.3.31.tar.gz

Once Apache is extracted to the /src/apache_1.3.31 directory (version numbering will probably differ), change to that directory, and configure the Apache HTTP server.

cd apache_1.3.31
./configure –prefix=/usr/local/apache –enable-module=so
make
make install

You will definitely need the Gnu C Compiler installed (GCC), and Gnu Make (make) in order to install Apache. This compilation of Apache will take quite some time, the configure options that were passed to Apache tell the configuration script to install Apache to the /usr/local/apache directory, and to enable module support within Apache. Module support will later be used to load PHP from. Once Apache is installed, the main configuration file should be copied to /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf. You can then test the web server by issuing a start command to the Apache control script, apachectl:

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start

You should now be able to view the default Apache page at the server’s ip address, or domain name if applicable. Since Apache is fully up and running, MySQL will be installed next.

MySQL Installation

MySQL can be either installed by source, or by binary packages. Since there is no need for customization to MySQL, MySQL can be safely installed from binary packages for this step. If you are using Red Hat Linux, the RPMS you will need to download include mysql-version, mysql-server-version, and mysql-client-version. You will also need to satisfy any dependencies requested by these packages. If you run Debian, you simply will need to enter one command:

apt-get install mysql-server

Apt-get will then fetch the required dependencies, and install them. Once MySQL is installed, you should first create a password, and a test database. This can be accomplished by:

mysql -u root -p
mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost=PASSWORD(‘desired password’);
mysql> create database mydb;
mysql> quit

Once you have created a test database, and assigned a password to the root user, you are ready to install and configure PHP to use MySQL.

PHP Installation and Configuration

PHP will need to be installed from source code, which may be downloaded from http://www.php.net. The latest version as of this writing is 4.3.7. Move and extract PHP to the same directory used before, /src:

mv php-4.3.7.tar.gz /src
cd /src
tar -xvzf php-4.3.7.tar.gz
cd php-4.3.7
./configure –with-mysql –with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
make
make install

Once PHP is installed, the configuration file for PHP will need to be copied to the /usr/local/lib directory, and PHP will need to be enabled within Apache. You can safely substitute the vi command below with whatever your favorite text editor is.

cp php.ini-dist /usr/local/lib/php.ini
vi /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf

Create the following lines, in the respective sections of httpd.conf (the proper locations will be under the [main] configuration, and generally don’t matter where they are located, but for simplicity, you should place them in the sections which are populated by similar directives).

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so

You will also want to modify the DirectoryIndex value to:

DirectoryIndex index.php index.html

Which will allow Apache to fetch the default index.php file when a directory is called which contains a file called index.php. Apache will now need to be restarted, via the apachectl script.

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl restart

Next, create a file under the default document directory (default is /usr/local/apache/htdocs) called index.php, and insert the following text into it.

print

Christopher J.

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) celebrated its ten-year anniversary in 2009. Over the past ten years, the ASF has helped open source developers collaborate on large complex projects. The ASF is most well-known as the owners of the code for the Apache web server (httpd), one of the most commonly used web servers on the Internet today. This article examines the reasons behind ASF’s success at retaining developers worldwide and building quality projects consistently year after year.

One reason that the Apache Software Foundation has been able to thrive is that as a non-profit corporation, the ASF is a separate legal entity. This provides a number of advantages to the developers working on code owned by ASF. First, it allows ASF to enter into contracts and sign non-disclosure agreements as needed on behalf of all the developers. The most important aspect however is that it protects the individual developers from legal liability for their code. The ASF assumes all liability for the code owned by the foundation. This safety net helps to encourage developers to work on code for the ASF.

Another reason for Apache Software Foundation’s success is its policy of non-affiliation, which prevents corporate politics from dividing its community. While developers from various companies can work on ASF projects, they do so only as individual developers. This prevents commercial interests from taking precedence over the interests of the community.

The ASF has also developed a commercial friendly software license. While the Apache license is

still an open source license, it is much friendlier to using ASF code in commercial applications. This was done to encourage companies to use the stable code developed by the ASF instead of their own potentially buggy implementations. This friendliness towards commercial interests has helped make Apache software projects some of the most widely deployed products.

The Apache Software Foundation has also implemented a consistent process for managing and developing open source projects. They use an incubation system to teach new project teams how to use their process. While many have criticized this process as overly bureaucratic, it has resulted in code that is of much higher quality. Additionally, the process helps to foster better collaboration among developers. This consistent development process is probably one of the greatest reasons that the Apache Software Foundation has been so successful.

Another system the ASF is well-known for is the so-called “meritocracy”. What this implies is that the membership in the community is not based on any politics or individual connections but rather on each developer’s merit. Those wanting to join the Apache Software Foundation are encouraged to find a project and begin contributing to it. The developer’s contributions earn him membership in the ASF. This merit based system is inherently fair and one of the reasons that the Apache community has remained cohesive for over ten years.

The Apache Software Foundation has been one of the most successful open source organizations in existence. Over the last decade they have refined a number of processes and systems that encourage collaboration among developers while remaining friendly to the commercial interests. They have also found ways to minimize internal politics by using a merit based system. Their ability to thrive and their wide-spread success suggest that the Apache Software Foundation is an excellent model to copy for any open source development organization.

LearnComputer! At one time the Apaches were the fiercest and most savage warriors among the Indians of the Southwest. They were wonderful horsemen and wandered from place to place raiding their more peaceful neighbors and robbing them of their food, horses, and sheep. They not only fought and robbed their Indian neighbors, but they also fought against all white men. The first white men the Apaches met were the Spanish explorers who conquered what we now call Mexico. It was from the Spanish that the Apaches first learned about horses.

They stole the Spaniards’ horses and learned to ride them and to fight on horseback. Later, when Mexico became an independent country, they attacked the Mexicans. When the territory that is now the states of New Mexico and Arizona became a part of the United States, the cavalry of the United States Army had to fight for years before the Apaches, who had been led by chiefs Geronimo, Cochise, and Victorio, surrendered in 1886. Geronimo was the most famous of the Apache chiefs. He was one of the most skillful of all Indian fighters.

Geronimo’s family had been captured and sent as prisoners to St. Augustine, Florida, and he surrendered only when a messenger from the American General Nelson A. Miles told him that he would be allowed to live with his wife and children. But the change of climate was unsuited to the Indians, so th<div

Although the Apaches were one tribe, they were divided into several bands. Today, several of these bands live peacefully on reservations in New Mexico and Arizona. There are more than 8,000 Apache Indians living on Arizona reservations and about 2,500 in New Mexico. The name “apache” is also used in the French language for dangerous criminals in Paris, the capital and biggest city of France. It is pronounced in the French manner, and means about the same as our words “hoodlum” or “gangster.”

David is the author of many articles including Best Friend Quotes and also the author of Best life quotes.

When deciding to put a web server online there are a number of software packages available from which to choose. Some operating systems such as Windows even come with their own web server built in. I strongly believe that the best choice for a web server is the Apache web server.

As an open source project Apache is free software. Obviously, cost is often a factor in deciding on a product to use. However, many Windows fans will point out that the Internet Information Server (IIS) is free (if you have already purchased Windows that is). You have to consider the total cost of ownership, however. IIS is certainly not free if you consider the need to own Windows in order to run it. Add to that the additional hardware specs required to run Windows and IIS and the additional skills required to administer IIS on Windows and you can see that IIS is hardly free. In this sense, neither is Apache. However, Apache will function admirably on lesser hardware, can run on free operating systems like Linux or Free BSD and has a standard and straightforward configuration. This adds up, in my opinion, to a lower cost of running Apache.

Apache also wins on features. The Apache server logs are quite comprehensive and can be easily configured to log IP addresses, referrers, and other data that are important to Internet marketers. Apache supports loadable modules, which makes it capable of running nearly any dynamic scripting language available including Perl, Python, PHP and more.

Apache is also extremely stable. According to the Netcraft survey, Apache serves

over 54% of all web sites on the Internet today. In 2005, Apache enjoyed a 71% share of web servers. Apache has a long history and its wide deployment has resulted in software that has truly been put through its paces. As a result, Apache is quite stable and powerful. The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), which manages the open source development of the Apache web server, has created structured procedures and techniques for groups of open source developers to collaborate. This consistent process adds to Apache’s stability.

Flexibility also makes Apache a winner. As mentioned earlier, Apache’s loadable module support makes it possible to configure Apache in a variety of ways. Apache can be fine-tuned to serve static content or to serve as the front end for an application server. It also has the ability to serve as a proxy server. The rewrite module allows you to manipulate the URL space with proxying, forwarding and redirection. Apache can even be reasonably tuned to serve both dynamic and static content. This is one of the many reasons that it is the web server of choice for large web hosting companies.

Apache is also extremely portable. Currently the Apache web server runs on a wide array of platforms including Mac, Windows, Solaris, Linux, Aix, and many more. The Apache web server has been ported to almost every hardware and software platform available. You will never find yourself locked into an operating system because you need to run Apache.

Finally, Apache has some of the best support available. Its wide usage has resulted in a variety of support options. You can purchase paid support plans from service organizations or you can easily find free community based support online. I have never failed to find the answer to an Apache question online.

There are a number of reasons why Apache is the leading web server on the market. These are all strong reasons why you should chose Apache as your web server. I guess the real question is “why would you choose anything other than Apache”?

LearnComputer! They can also be cheap, since many of the areas are distant from the city.

Arizona features a surprising range of terrain that includes desert, grassy lowlands and vegetated mountain regions. The climate found across the state also shows much variety.

And you don’t have to travel far to appreciate this assortment of scenery. In the summer you can take a break in the cool, nearby hills, while the lower lying areas are more popular in the winter months.

Apache Junction received its name due to its location. The town is at the junction of U.S. Highway 60 and State Highway 88. The Apache Trail was created in 1905 as a route from Phoenix to the construction site of the Roosevelt Dam.

This route, which traced the old Apache ways across the desert and through the cavernous canyons, was used to transport men and needed supplies. Today the Apache Trail is one of the most scenic drives in Arizona.

The area experiences very little rainfall, humidity or wind. This is offset by generous amounts of clear days and sunshine that average near the top of the national list in these categories.

In 1922 George Cleveland Curtis decided to choose this loca<div

One year later Curtis built the Apache Junction Inn.

By the 1950′s others arrived in town and began living in RV parks and small houses. There were enough residents at this time to form a town. Residents wanted to call the town Superstition City. However, the name could not be changed because the town was already recorded as a historical site.

Since incorporation in 1978 the town has encouraged growth and businesses. Homebuilding has flourished and Apache Junction has long been a popular destination of winter visitors because of its mild winter climate. The town has attracted as many as 300,000 winter visitors a year.

Although distant from Phoenix and not a part of Maricopa County, Apache Junction is still considered by many to be a part of the Valley of the Sun.

Today, Apache Junction caters to young dual income families with children, recreation seekers and retirees.
